The first season was phenomenal and had me on edge the whole time but also connecting with the characters. The one thing I'm grappling with is the shows attempt to convince the viewer to sympathize with a serial killer. I have a hard time siding with the 'Dark Defender' and it's dominant theme in season 2. Here's what does not make sense to me. The one 'voice of reason', Debra, is talking to Dexter in a Season 2 episode and says, 'If I got my hands on the Bay Harbor Butcher, I would put a bullet in his brain.' To which Dexter replies, 'You really feel that way Deb?'
And she says, 'Harry taught us to value human life.' Well.so you would or wouldn't put a bullet in the Bay Harbor Butchers head? The messaging of empathizing with Dexter is honestly a frustrating one. Everyone seems to just accept that this mass murderer is this great guy who's only killing 'bad people' but you don't hear it from the other side, but when you do, it's hypocritical. Not to mention he is able to just cover his tracks with the best FBI agent around by simply pulling a fire alarm and deleting a segment of the video. No one is going to notice a chunk of time stamp missing? Those offices don't have cameras themselves?
I mean half of Dexter's work is sloppy yet he's this serial killer genius. Sorry for the rant.
I'm fully engaged and love the series so far, just getting picky and want to hear this communities discussion on it since I'm new to the sub. Edit: Season 2, Episode 6, apologies. SPOILER.
